i haven't built a fort in forever. it's probably been since like mid grade school. however, i do remember having some pretty kick-ass forts back then. we're talking 'bout: kids got the whole summer off, let's do work, mini-construction site, team effort type forts. one time we built a single story brick hut with a plywood roof in the woods across the street from my parents house. i don't know why all them bricks were in them woods but we utilized 'em good. holy shit, we must have pioneered green building back in the mid 80's by recycling all that crap! i smoked my first smoke by that fort. DORAL's man, but that's a whole 'nuther story, yo. anyways pops might have some pics to share of that fort, he was pretty impressed by our amateur masonry skills. btw, HAPPY B-DAY POPS, QUIT FIGHTING IT, MOUSTACHE REVIVAL.
there was one kid in the neigborhood that had crazy carpentry skills. david t. i think he's like some pro water skiier or something now, like traveling europe and doing tommy bartlett style shows. anyways, he had a 3 or 4 story tree fort that he built. i'm pretty sure i helped a little bit, but my woodworking skills were as sucky back then as they are now. i remember being on the 'top floor' of that fort and getting pretty spooked cuz you were at least like 20 feet off the ground. keep in mind that this was like 5th/6th grade and i was like 3 feet tall or something. all i remeber is david t. was the shortest kid in class and i had like a mean 1/2 inch on him. well, one day david t. must have been adding another floor to the fort and got a little too close to heaven, cuz somebody struck him down to the ground and blursteded his spleen.
here we are now, some 15 to 20 years later and i'm still terrible at building stuff. proof. me and xteam trucked a lot of wood to one of our favorite snowmobile/snowboard zones and attempted to build a fort rivaling those of our yesteryear. we failed. after trying to vizualize the super-rad fort that could be, we decided to shut-up our brains that were overthinking the whole fort-building mission by chuggin some rah-yeahs and screwing some shit to the trees. no floor, no roof, most of the wood was rotten from the get-go. i think we'll be lucky if it lasts this season, but who cares, it's still better than nothing and we had a good time building it.
