snowboarding can be a pain in the ass and snowmobiling can be an even bigger pain in the ass. you have to get all your crap ready the night before; food, avy gear, maps, mountain money (aka shit tickets), gas, oil, etc., not to mention extra hats, goggles, gloves, and so on. then you wake up between 5 and 6 am, load up the trailer, drive to friends house, unload sled, reload sled on his trailer, drive 1 to 2 hours ($$gas$$) to get to the snowpark and cross your fingers that it's not icy, foggy, raining, flat light, snowing too hard, pray sled won't break down, etc. with all this crap to deal with each time it gets pretty easy for me to wake up in my warm bed and decide to BAG IT.
well, this past sunday was one of those days that i woke up and was pretty tempted to bag on the stevens pass sled trip that oneshot and swappy had planned. when you're going out to ride in the beginning of may you hope for sunny, slushy conditions. unfortunately today the sky was overcast, it was cold in the city, and i was afraid snow conditions would be similar to those that we had last year when i cracked a rib and bruised my kidney. showed up to oneshots around 8, did the trailer dance and headed to the mountain. the whole way up was wet, gray, and cold. when we made it to the parking lot it was kinda late (10 am'ish) and we were the only car in the lot. 'crap' we thought, are we the only ones in the state stupid enough to go ride in these conditions. we slowly got ready in the lot and a few more bubbas rolled in and swappy arrived. iron man even showed up for a bit!
we eventually started off on the sleds and the snow was pretty soft on the road at the lower elevations. then we got into the fog. flat light with very little depth perception. stoke was low. oneshot stayed motivated and found an area above the fog, which started to lift our spirits.
we set up base camp and oneshot strapped in for the first run of the day. point, point, slash....slash. holy shit, was that a pooh spray? wait, it's not icy? RAD!!
anyways, i got more sled accessed runs that day than ever before and the snow was really good and untracked. not blower pow good, but deep pooh good. and damn friggin good for may 2nd yahurd?
the usual bubba activies were enjoyed: shreddin, beers, smokes, muff-pot delicacies (i.e. hot weiners), gun shootin, sled roopin, and even a little golfing!
here are some pictures!
